Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (Nay, but you do not honor the orphan)
For this reason, Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Fajr:17] This means: He did not give you what He gave you as a favor to you because you were deserving of it, but it was a grace from Him. And He did not humiliate you when He determined your provision; rather, this is the consequence of His mercy and justice.
Then Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Fajr:17] This means: When Allah the Exalted honors you with blessings, you do not show compassion to those who are deserving of honor, namely the orphans. Here, "the orphan" is a generic term, and the intent is not a single orphan but the category of orphans;And the orphan, as the scholars said: he is the one whose father died before he reached maturity, whether male or female, whereas one whose mother died is not an orphan.And his statement: [Al-Fajr:17] And the orphan includes both the poor among orphans and the rich,Meaning: so that even the rich among orphans should be treated with kindness and honored; for his heart has been broken by the loss of his father and the one who managed his affairs. So Allah the Exalted commanded kindness to him until this break that befell him is removed.
