Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (So that is the one who repulses the orphan)

Allah the Exalted said:
(2) For that is the one who drives away the orphan (3) And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.فَذَلِكَ الَّذِي يَدُعُّ الْيَتِيمَ * وَلا يَحُضُّ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
[Al-Ma'un: 2-3] He combined two matters: The first matter is the lack of mercy toward orphans, who are the recipients of mercy; for orphans are those whose fathers died before they reached maturity, and they are the objects of compassion and mercy; because he has lost his father, his heart is broken and needs to be mended. For this reason, the texts mention the virtue of being kind to orphans. But this person—may Allah protect us from that—(repulses the orphan) pushes him away with violence;Because repulsing is: pushing away with violence,As Allah the Exalted said:
On the Day they are driven into the Fire of Hell with a drivingيَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعّاً
[Al-Tur: 13] meaning: a severe push. So you find that when the orphan comes to him begging for something or speaking to him about something, he despises him and pushes him away forcefully, so he does not show him mercy.

The second matter: They also do not care about showing mercy to others,
and does not encourage the feeding of the poorوَلا يَحُضُّ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
[Al-Ma'un: 3] so the poor, needy person who needs food, he does not encourage him to feed him; because his heart is a stone—may Allah protect us from that—hard. So their hearts are
like stones or even harderكَالْحِجَارَةِ أَوْ أَشَدُّ قَسْوَةً
[Al-Baqarah: 74] Thus, there is no mercy in him, neither for orphans nor for the poor, so he is hard-hearted, may Allah protect us from that.
