The Ruling on Using Certain Drums in Places Where the Hand Drum Is Used
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh! There is a type of drum that is covered on one side, and the other side is mostly covered except for a small opening. Does this fall under the category of the hand drum?
The Shaykh : This—may Allah keep you safe—falls under the category of the drum, and it may even be more severe; because the small opening allows the sound to come out through that small opening, producing a whistling sound and a more resonant noise than if it were completely sealed or completely open. Therefore, it is not permissible to use this in places where the hand drum is used; because the hand drum is undoubtedly milder than this. This produces a resonant sound and is a greater cause of intoxication and delight.
