Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And a written book)]
Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Tur: 2-3] The written book in the parchment; the scholars differed on this, and this disagreement rests on the word *raq*. Is *raq* everything in which writing is done, such as skin, paper, bone, stone, and the like? Or is it specific to what is written on skins and the like? If we say the former, then the intended meaning of the book is several things, including: the Preserved Tablet,And among them: the books in the hands of the angels,And among them: the Noble Qur'an,And among them: the Torah, thus encompassing several books,If we say: that *raq* is everything in which writing is done.
And if we say: that *raq* is paper and the like, what is usually written on, so the Preserved Tablet is not included with us and does not fall under this; rather, the intended meaning is either the Torah or the Qur'an,Those who said: that it is the Torah. They preferred their saying by stating that it was paired with the Mount, from which Moses (peace be upon him) was spoken to, so the written book was the Torah brought by Moses.
And whoever said: that the intended meaning is the Noble Qur'an. They preferred this by stating that Allah mentioned the Mount from which revelation was sent to Moses, and the book, which is the Qur'an, was revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Thus, Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) mentioned the most noble of the missions among the Children of Israel by alluding to it through the mention of the Mount, and mentioned the most noble of the missions sent from among the Children of Ismail, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Accordingly, it is established that the intended meaning of the written book is the Noble Qur'an.
