One who enters a mosque and finds them praying the night prayer, while he has not prayed the sunset prayer
A person entered the mosque at the time of the sunset prayer and found the congregation praying the night prayer. What should he do? And should he combine the night prayer after finishing the prayer?
If he enters and has not prayed Maghrib, and the people are praying 'Isha, he enters with them intending Maghrib. Then, if he entered with them at the beginning of the prayer, when the imam stands for the fourth rak'ah, he sits, recites the tashahhud, and says the taslim. Then he joins the imam in the remainder of the 'Isha prayer. And if he entered with them in the second rak'ah or after that, the matter is clear.
If he enters during the second unit, when does he say the closing salam? With the imam. And if he enters during the third unit, he performs one unit after the imam’s salam.
The questioner: Does he combine? The Shaykh: I do not know if he is one of those who combine or not?The questioner: For rain.
The Shaykh: If he catches something of the night prayer -Meaning: after he has recited the testimony - let him combine. And if he does not catch it, in my view there is a place for hesitation; because he does not benefit from this combination at all,Since he will go out to his house, and we say: wait until the time of the night prayer enters and pray in your house. But if he catches something of the night prayer with the imam, let him combine so that he catches the virtue of the congregation.
