Ruling on shaking hands with one's grandfather's wife

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is it permissible for a grandson to greet his grandfather’s wife?
Yes, it is permissible, and she is his mahram.

The questioner: Likewise, other than his grandmother.

The Shaykh: Yes, other than his grandmother; because the ancestors, however high up the line, are mahram to their grandsons and great-grandsons, and their wives are also mahram to them.

On this occasion, I say to you, may Allah reward you: When a man marries a woman, his ancestors become mahram to her. His ancestors are his fathers and grandfathers, however high up the line. His sons become mahram to her, and his grandsons and granddaughters become mahram to her. And the ancestors of the wife become mahram to the husband,Meaning: namely her mothers and grandmothers. This ruling is established by the mere contract for these three categories.

The fourth: The descendants of the wife—Meaning: her daughters—do not become mahram to the husband until he has intercourse with their mother. As Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
and your step-daughters under your guardianship [born] of your wives unto whom you have gone in. But if you have not gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you.
[al-Nisa: 23].
