The Ruling on the Eclipse Prayer During the Times of Prohibition

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
By the command of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), the moon was eclipsed last Friday after the Fajr adhan. People differed on whether to pray or not; some prayed and some did not. If the moon is rising in the daytime, in the morning or in the evening, and is eclipsed, do people pray or not?
It is the moon, as you mentioned, that was eclipsed after the dawn had risen. So, the one who holds that voluntary prayers with a cause are not performed in the times of prohibition, and that the prohibition begins from the rising of the dawn, says: It is forbidden to pray because this is a time of prohibition. This is the well-known position in the school of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him).

And the one who holds that voluntary prayers with a cause are performed in the times of prohibition says: He prays, even after the dawn has risen, and even after the Fajr prayer. But on the condition: This is because the daylight does not obscure the light of the moon. However, if the daylight spreads and the presence or absence of the moon becomes the same, then he does not pray.because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And We have made the night and day two signs, and We erased the sign of the night and made the sign of the day visibleوَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ آيَتَيْنِ فَمَحَوْنَا آيَةَ اللَّيْلِ وَجَعَلْنَا آيَةَ النَّهَارِ مُبْصِرَةً
[Al-Isra: 12] And the verse regarding the night is the moon, as Mujahid and others interpreted it.
It is not possible for it to have an effect unless the atmosphere is dark. If the light of the day rises, it is not prayed. This opinion is the strongest and most just of the opinions.

However, some scholars say: The eclipse prayer is a collective obligation.
This is the definitive opinion: it is not permissible for Muslims to leave it.And the best is: It is also prayed in the congregational mosques. Therefore, the prayer is recited aloud in it, even if it is during the day when the sun is eclipsed, because it is a prayer of gathering, and all prayers of gathering are those in which people assemble in one place.
