The recommendation of joining the imam in prayer in the mosque for one who has already prayed it with the intention of a voluntary prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: A group of men prayed in their mosques, then they went to another mosque to attend a funeral, which was the 'Asr prayer. When they arrived at the mosque where the funeral was, they found the mosque congregation praying. Some of them sat down, some joined the imam and prayed the 'Asr prayer, and some prayed the greeting of the mosque alone. What is the ruling in this matter?
The correct view is with those who joined the imam; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to two men he saw who had not prayed the Fajr prayer with him: (What prevented you from praying with us,They said: O Messenger of Allah! We prayed in our tents,So he said: If you have prayed in your tents and then come to a mosque with a congregation, pray with them, and it will be a voluntary prayer for you) .
So the correct view is with those who joined the imam. However, if they joined the imam from the beginning of the prayer, the matter is clear: they follow him until he says the closing salam. If they joined him in the second rak'ah, they complete the fourth rak'ah lightly. If they joined him in the third rak'ah, they say the salam with him; because at that point they will have prayed two rak'ahs, so they say the salam with the imam so that they do not miss the funeral prayer.

The questioner: And the one who prayed alone the greeting of the mosque! The Shaykh: The one who prayed alone the greeting of the mosque, this person did not know,And we said: the correct view is with the imam.

The questioner: Is it obligatory for him to join the imam, or should he pray alone? The Shaykh: I told you: the correct view is with those who joined the imam, and I brought you the hadith.

The questioner: Meaning: this is the correct view.

The Shaykh: As for what is obligatory, nothing is obligatory for anyone. So if they stand and wait for his salam and then pray the funeral prayer with him, there is no sin on them.
