The Differences Between a Vision and a Dream
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
How can a person distinguish between a vision and a dream?
Generally, a vision is pleasant; the believer rejoices in it, his chest opens up to it, and it is coherent. As for a dream, it is from Satan, who brings parables to the sleeper to disturb him, terrify him, and disturb his rest. There is also what resembles a dream that has no basis or meaning, such as what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about; a man asked him,He said: (O Messenger of Allah! I saw in a dream that my head was cut off and it ran away—his head ran away—so I started running after it—he was running after his head—So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not tell people about Satan’s playing with you in your sleep) Generally, a dream has no origin or meaning; it is only meant to terrify the person. Therefore, if you see a vision you dislike, you should seek refuge in Allah from the evil of Satan and from the evil of what you saw, and you should not tell anyone about it. If you wake up from your sleep, turn over to the other side. If it returns to you, get up, perform wudu, and pray, for it will depart from you by the permission of Allah.
