What is the difference between a dream and a vision?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the difference between a dream and a vision?

The Shaykh : The difference between a dream and a vision is that a dream is from Shaytan, and it occurs in two cases:
The first case is in what a person dislikes, for Shaytan presents to the sleeper what he dislikes in order to sadden and distress him.
The second case is in a matter that has no basis or origin; rather, it is idle talk with no substance. Among such things is the case of a man who told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he saw in a dream that his head had been cut off and the head ran away, and the man ran after his head. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
Do not tell people about Satan’s playing with you in your sleep. لا تحدث الناس بتلاعب الشيطان بك في منامك
.
So this dream is from Shaytan and revolves around two matters:
Either something disliked by the person, or something that has no origin or basis and is not reasonable.
As for the vision, it is from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and the vision is focused and straight, not like the jumbled dreams.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
