Ruling on placing a wall around a grave if it is inside the mosque

His Eminence the Shaykh: If there is a grave in the mosque, is it sufficient to build a wall or enclosure around it? They cite as evidence that the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is inside the mosque and has an enclosure around it?

May Allah reward you! I will tell you a useful principle in this and other matters: The people of falsehood have had doubts created for them by Allah so that their hearts may deviate, may Allah protect us from that,Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said: [Al-Imran: 7] For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: (When you see those who follow what is ambiguous in it, those are the ones Allah has named, so beware of them) Was the grave of the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) newly constructed in the mosque?If they say: Yes,We say: You are lying. The Companions did not bury him in the mosque,And if they say: No,We said: So there is no proof in that; because the grave of the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was in the house in which he died, and at that time it was separate from the mosque. It was not included in the mosque until about ninety-five or ninety-six years after the Hijrah, when it was incorporated into the mosque; because they were compelled to expand it, and it seemed that at that time the only feasible direction for expansion was from this side. They left the chamber standing with its walls, and it did not enter the mosque. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not buried in the mosque, and the mosque was not built over his grave. But the people of falsehood cling to doubts; because their hearts are deviant, may Allah protect us from that. And the wonder is that they cling to the ambiguous verses while leaving the clear and decisive ones.
