Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment)]

Allah the Exalted said:
And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.
[Surat al-Dhariyat: 37]
And We left therein a sign
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:37]
Meaning: a sign. So what is the sign? Is it a physical sign or a conceptual sign? Or are there two signs, one conceptual and one physical?I tell you a useful rule in exegesis: If a verse is capable of more than one meaning, with no preference for one over the other and no contradiction between them, it must be understood to include both meanings. We say of this verse: A sign; this sign is both physical and conceptual. As for the physical one, it is what is seen of the location of their city, which is called the Lake of Lut, for this was the site of the city. Everyone passes by it, sees it, and observes it.As Allah the Exalted said:
(137) And indeed, you pass by them in the morning (138) And at night. Then will you not use reason?
[Surat al-Saffat: 137-138] .

A conceptual sign: Everyone who reads their story in all the noble surahs in which it is mentioned takes heed, draws a lesson, and fears. This is a conceptual sign. But who pays attention to these signs?
for those who fear the painful punishment.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:37]
As for the deniers whose hearts have hardened, they did not benefit from the signs.Allah the Exalted said:
But of no avail will be signs or warners to a people who do not believe
[Surat Yunus: 101] We ask Allah to make us and you among those who benefit from the signs. The discussion on the story of Ibrahim and Lut (peace be upon them both) has ended, and the rest of the discussion on the end of the surah will follow.
