Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (So why, when the soul reaches the throat)]
Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-Waqi'ah: 83] (Reached) means: the soul, and what determines the referent here is the context,As in the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He: [Surah Sad: 32] (Set) means: the sun, and it had not been mentioned previously, but the context indicates it, so the referent of the pronoun is sometimes mentioned and sometimes known either by the context or by something else, and (the throat) is: the passage of the breath,And on the lower side of the neck, there are two passages: the passage of the breath, and the passage of food and drink,The passage of food and drink is called: the esophagus,And the passage of the breath: the throat,And it is: consists of soft, open, circular rings, whereas the esophagus is the opposite; it is like one of the intestines; because the point is that the passage of the breath must be open, for if the passage of the breath were closed, breathing would be severe, but by the mercy of Allah, Allah made this like a tube, but soft, with round rings, to make it easy for a person to raise his head and lower his head, whereas the esophagus is like the ordinary intestines, and food and drink are strong and open it when they descend into it.
And Allah mentioned the throat and not the esophagus; because the throat is the passage of the breath, and with its severance, the human being dies,Meaning: that when the soul reaches the throat, ascending from the bottom of the body to this place, and at that time, the ties to this world are severed, and the human being knows that he has turned toward the Hereafter and finished with this world.
Allah the Exalted said:
Then why, when the soul at death reaches the throat
فَلَوْلا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَIndeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until the sun disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."
إِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّي حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِAnd Allah mentioned the throat and not the esophagus; because the throat is the passage of the breath, and with its severance, the human being dies,Meaning: that when the soul reaches the throat, ascending from the bottom of the body to this place, and at that time, the ties to this world are severed, and the human being knows that he has turned toward the Hereafter and finished with this world.
