Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (So those who believed and spent have a great reward)
Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Hadid: 7] Who did they believe in? In Allah and His Messenger;Because he said: (Believe in Allah and His Messenger) and spend, meaning: from that in which He made you trustees, they have a great reward. And as you know, the verses state that they have a great reward, and they have a tremendous reward [Al-An'am: 160] So Allah described the rewards for deeds with these descriptions: great, tremendous, and abundant; As for the abundant, we take it from His saying: (Whoever brings a good deed will have ten times its like) And through this you know the favor of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) upon us, and praise be to Allah. He commands us to work, we work, and He rewards us with an abundant reward, a tremendous reward, a great reward. It is a great, abundant favor. So we must thank Allah, and spend from that in which He made us trustees.
Do we spend all that we own, or part of it? (And spend from that which He made you) (from) Is this "from" for partiality or for specifying what is spent from? If it is for partiality, the meaning is: spend part of what came to you, not all of it. And if we make it for specification, the meaning is: spend from that in which He made you trustees according to what the public interest requires, either all or part. So which is better, to make "from" for partiality or to make "from" for specification? The second, if we make it for specification, the person is given a choice, meaning: he spends all his wealth or part of his wealth, more or less, according to what the public interest requires.
And it is known that the wider the meaning, the more preferable it is to adopt it. The noble, great Qur'an has wide, tremendous meanings. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once encouraged charity, and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were racing to do good. Each one wanted to be the one who was ahead,So 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Today I will outpace Abu Bakr; because these two men are the most intimate of the Companions with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the most beloved of the Companions to the Messenger.
Indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) loved Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) more than he loved 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), even though 'Ali ibn Abi Talib was his cousin and the husband of his daughter, but Abu Bakr he loved more and more intensely,He was asked: (Who is the most beloved of people to you?He said: Abu Bakr) And this is his statement, and his statement is the truth, and there is no doubt in that,He says: (If I were to take a friend from among my Ummah, I would have taken Abu Bakr) .
The point is that 'Umar was, he and Abu Bakr, like two racehorses. He wanted to outpace him. Not out of envy of Abu Bakr, but out of love for excellence for himself,He said: Today I will outpace Abu Bakr. So he came with half his wealth to spend it,It was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: (O 'Umar, what did you leave for your family? He said: I left for them the half, meaning the half.) And Abu Bakr came and said: (What did you leave for your family? He said: I left for them Allah and His Messenger) meaning he spent all his wealth,So 'Umar said: By Allah, I will not race you for anything after that, ever. He realized that he was unable to outpace Abu Bakr.
The point of this hadith is that Abu Bakr gave charity with all his wealth. So if a person sees the public interest in giving charity with all his wealth, and he has the strength of reliance upon Allah, and dependence on Allah, and earning a livelihood, such that he can recover some wealth for his family and himself, at that time we say: give charity with all your wealth. If the matter is the opposite.
He was a clumsy man who did not know how to earn, and there is no need for him to spend a lot,So here we say: It is better that you spend part of the wealth.
Therefore: (And spend from that which He made you) Is (from) for partiality or for specification? For specification,Meaning: Spend from this wealth what is in the public interest. In this verse is evidence that it is obligatory for a person to establish his faith and firm it. And whenever he sees it wavering, he seeks refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan and proceeds on his path. And that he should spend from the wealth.
And here is a question: Is wealth beloved to souls? Yes,Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Fajr: 20] And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-'Adiyat: 8] meaning: wealth; a person cannot offer something beloved to him except for what is more beloved. So if a person offers what is beloved to him seeking the pleasure of Allah, we know that the man loves the pleasure of Allah more than he loves wealth. And through that, faith is realized.
I ask Allah the Exalted to make me and you among those with firm knowledge, and steadfast faith. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
Allah the Exalted said:
For those who have believed among you and spent, there will be a great reward.
فَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَأَنْفَقُوا لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌWhoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof [to his credit]
مَنْ جَاءَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ عَشْرُ أَمْثَالِهَاDo we spend all that we own, or part of it?
