Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (Attending them are eternal youths)
Thus, the people of Paradise are on couches facing one another, [Al-Waqi'ah: 15-16] and in a state of reclining [Al-Waqi'ah: 17] (al-wildan) is the plural of walad, or the plural of walid, just as ghilman is the plural of ghulam. (Attending them) means moving about among them. (Eternal youths) means: they were created to remain eternal. They are young boys, [Al-Insan: 19] due to their beauty, their purity, their multitude, and their distribution throughout the domains of their masters. (If you see them) means: if you see the youths. And if the youths are such that you would think them scattered pearls, then the masters are even greater and greater.
[Al-Waqi'ah: 17-18] (Akwab) refers to cups that have handles, and the pitchers (abarīq) are also vessels that have handles. (And a cup from Ma'in) has no handle. And his statement: (From Ma'in) means: from a specific wine.
[Al-Waqi'ah: 19] Meaning: it does not cause a headache, nor does it cause the intellect to flow out. This is unlike the wine of this world, which causes a headache and takes away the intellect.
[Al-Waqi'ah: 19-20] is conjoined to His saying: (With cups) meaning: and the youths attend them with fruit [Al-Waqi'ah: 20] pleasant in appearance, pleasant in smell, and pleasant to eat. This fruit is pleasant in its appearance, pleasant in its scent, and pleasant in its eating and taste;Because Allah said: [Al-Waqi'ah: 20] And the fact that a person dislikes a thing is either due to its ugly appearance, or its ugly smell, or its ugly taste. The fruit in Paradise is not so; rather, the opposite is true: it is pleasant in its color, size, scent, and taste. And Glorified is Allah! They are given it in a similar form, similar in color, size, and scent, but different in taste. This increases a person's joy and happiness, and faith in the power of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). [Al-Waqi'ah: 21] Meaning: and these youths attend them with the meat of birds. The mention of the meat of birds is because the meat of birds is the softest and most delicious of meats. And where does this bird get its food?
It is not for us to ask this question; because regarding the matters of the unseen, it is obligatory for us to believe in them without asking about what has not reached us by report. So we say: If these birds need food, how much they feed on; because they are in Paradise. And if they do not need food, then Allah is Able over all things.
And with this, the speech ends on what Allah has granted by way of exegesis of these noble verses. I ask Allah the Exalted to make me and you among the foremost of the foremost in good deeds. Indeed, He is Able over all things.
Thus, the people of Paradise are on couches facing one another,
(15) On thrones woven [with ornament], (16) Reclining on them, facing each other.
There will circulate among them young boys made eternal
When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls.
(17) There will circulate among them young boys made eternal (18) With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring -
No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -
(19) No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - (20) And fruit of what they select
And fruit of what they select
Of whatever they choose
And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.
