Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (Indeed, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger)
Then He, the Exalted, said: [Al-Mujadilah: 5] (Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger) means: they contradict Allah and His Messenger by doing what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, or by leaving what Allah and His Messenger have commanded, or by combining both. This contradiction is called *muhadad* because the one who contradicts is in one direction and the Shari'ah is in another, with a boundary between them. It is also called *mushaqaqah*.As Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: [Al-Hashr: 4] He said: [Al-Mujadilah: 5] (They were humiliated) meaning: they were degraded and dishonored, as mentioned at the end of the surah: [Al-Mujadilah: 20] No one opposes Allah and His Messenger except that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will humble them, and their humiliation will be in proportion to the opposition they committed, as a just recompense. Then, will this humiliation be in this world, or in the Hereafter, or in both?
It may be in this world only, or in the Hereafter only, or in both. The important point is that their ultimate end is humiliation.
As a recompense for their arrogance toward the truth and their pride against it, they were humiliated. (As those before them were humiliated) meaning: what happened to those who opposed Allah and His Messenger from previous nations? They were subjected to humiliation and disgrace—may Allah protect us from that—and their stories became read in the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Muslims draw near to Allah the Exalted by reading their stories, and they read them in their prayers.
[Al-Mujadilah: 5] This means: these who oppose Allah and His Messenger have opposed them with knowledge, because Allah has sent down clear signs,Meaning: signs of the truth of the messengers and the validity of their message. (Clear) means: manifest, not hidden from anyone, and yet they oppose Allah and His Messenger.
[Al-Mujadilah: 5] meaning: for every disbeliever,Here, one might ask: Why was the context of the verse not: "And for them is a humiliating punishment"?Because he said: [Al-Mujadilah: 5] So he made it explicit in a place where it could have been implied, to indicate that those who opposed Allah and His Messenger are disbelievers, and to include these and others, even though everyone who disbelieves is one who opposes Allah and His Messenger, but mentioning the description is more eloquent.
Then He, the Exalted, said:
Indeed, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger are abased as those before them were abased
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحَادُّونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ كُبِتُوا كَمَا كُبِتَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْThat is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah - then indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
Indeed, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger are abased as those before them were abased
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحَادُّونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ كُبِتُوا كَمَا كُبِتَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْIndeed, the ones who oppose Allah and His Messenger - those will be among the most humbled.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحَادُّونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ أُولَئِكَ فِي الْأَذَلِّينَIt may be in this world only, or in the Hereafter only, or in both. The important point is that their ultimate end is humiliation.
As a recompense for their arrogance toward the truth and their pride against it, they were humiliated.
