The Ruling on Interpreting Dreams

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
What is the ruling on interpreting dreams?
Provided that the person has knowledge. Interpreting dreams does not follow religious knowledge; some people may have religious knowledge but be unable to interpret dreams, while others may lack religious knowledge yet interpret them perfectly. However, I advise anyone who hears these words of mine not to be eager to pursue dreams; for when Satan knows that a person is pursuing his dreams, he harms him by showing him what he dislikes, until he becomes sad, or he forgets them and does not care about them. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to see dreams that distressed them and made them ill, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided them to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of Satan and from the evil of what they saw, and not to tell anyone, after which they would be harmed no longer.
