Is it permissible to interpret dreams?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. Is it permissible to interpret dreams?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is permissible, provided that the person has knowledge. Interpreting dreams does not necessarily follow religious knowledge; some people may have religious knowledge but not know how to interpret, while others may lack religious knowledge yet interpret perfectly. However, I advise anyone who hears these words of mine not to be eager to pursue dream interpretation, because if Satan knows that a person is following up on their dreams, he will harm him by showing him what he dislikes until he becomes sad. Rather, one should ignore them and not pay attention to them, because the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to see dreams that distressed them and made them ill, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) guided them to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of Satan and from the evil of what they saw, and not to tell anyone, and then they would not be harmed. Yes, are you one of those who interpret dreams?

The questioner : No, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : The left side.
