Is it permissible for the one performing 'Umrah to put a bandage on his knee because he feels pain in it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner asks: Is it permissible for the one performing 'Umrah to put a bandage on his knee because he feels pain in it?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is permissible for the one performing 'Umrah, and for the one performing Hajj as well, to bind his leg with a strap if it pains him, and even if it does not pain him, if there is a benefit in doing so. This is because a strap and its like are not considered clothing. By the way, I would like to point out a matter in which many common people have been misled. Some common people think that the one in the state of ihram does not wear anything that has stitching. They say, "Do not wear anything with stitching." They even ask about the stitched sandal, asking, "Is it permissible to wear it because it has stitching?" And they ask about the cloak or the lower garment if it is patched, asking, "Is it permissible to wear it because it has stitching?" This is based on the phrase used by the jurists, which is their saying, "Among the prohibitions is wearing the sewn garment." So some common people thought that its meaning is wearing something with stitching. This is not what the scholars intended. Rather, what the scholars intended is wearing the customary clothing that is sewn to fit the body, such as the shirt, the trousers, the T-shirt, the jacket, and the like. If only we had restricted ourselves to the expression of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)! If we had restricted ourselves to the expression of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), there would have been no problem for us. What is the expression of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)? He was asked, "What does the one in the state of ihram wear?" Meaning, what is it that the one in the state of ihram wears? He said:
He does not wear the shirt, nor the trousers, nor the biranis, nor the turbans, nor the leather socks. لا يلبس القميص ولا السراويل ولا البرانس ولا العمائم ولا الخفاف
The answer, my brother, answer, because you have fallen asleep a little. What did I say in this matter?

The questioner : And what is the question?

The Shaykh : The question is this.

The questioner : I was looking at this brother.

The Shaykh : You are looking at the brother while you are in the circle of dhikr. We said that the Messenger was asked, "What does the one in the state of ihram wear?" Meaning, what does he wear? He said:
He does not wear the shirt, nor the trousers, nor the biranis, nor the turbans, nor the leather socks. لا يلبس القميص ولا السراويل والا البرانس ولا العمائم ولا الخفاف
Did the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) answer? Yes, or no? He answered with the best answer. When he said, "He does not wear such and such and such and such," it is as if he is saying, "He wears everything else." He only turned to mentioning the prohibited things because the permissible things are more numerous, so he turned to mentioning the prohibited ones. We explain its meaning. The shirt is clear, yes or no? Where is the shirt? These clothes of ours are the shirt. The garment. The trousers. We say, "trousers" or "trouser"? "Trousers" means "trouser." "Trousers" is not a plural, my brother. "Trousers" is singular. That is why Ibn Malik said: "And trousers, with this plural, almost necessitated the general prohibition" "Trousers, with this plural, almost necessitated the general prohibition," and it is not a plural. Okay. "Trousers" is known. After that, the "biranis." I hear someone asking, "What are biranis?" Biranis are clothes that are worn, connected to pieces on the head. I think they are worn by the people of the Maghreb. It is a garment worn by the people of the Maghreb. These are the biranis. Turbans are known. Leather socks are also known. If he does not wear these things, he wears everything else. Okay. If someone asks, "Is it permissible for the one in the state of ihram to wear a T-shirt?" Let's see. Is it a shirt? Is it not trousers?

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : Biranis.

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : Turbans.

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : Leather socks.

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : If so.

The questioner : Sewn.

The Shaykh : It is not sewn. You did not study "sewn." We say the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited wearing trousers. Trousers are a garment for part of the body. So it is understood from this that whatever is made as a garment for part of the body is forbidden. Therefore, the jacket is forbidden. It is not a shirt. The T-shirt is forbidden. It is not a shirt. Even if it were woven without stitching, it would be forbidden. Because, my brother, it is not the cause of the stitching. If a person had a lower garment and a cloak that were patched with stitching, is it forbidden or permissible? Permissible. So the cause is not the stitching. And this is what made you ask this question, because you have been half asleep for a long time. The "sewn" that the scholars intend by "sewn" is these things and what is in their meaning. Clear? Count them for me.

The questioner : The shirt and the trousers.

The Shaykh : And the biranis, the turbans, and the leather socks. Well done. Do you know why I said this? So that the sleep would go away for a moment.

The questioner : Leather socks, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Socks are of the same kind as leather socks. Socks are what we call "sharab." They are in the position of leather socks. They are not permissible for men, but they are permissible for women.
