What is the difference between smoking and intoxicants, and their harm to others?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : One thing brings to mind another. I mentioned in one of the tapes that smoking is forbidden, and I spoke and said that it is a matter of intoxication from intoxicants, but I did not clarify the issue, meaning why it is a matter of intoxicants.

The Shaykh : Because intoxicants are harmful to the drinkers, in the pattern of "gamblers" (muqamir), smoking is harmful to the smoker and to others, and the harm that extends to others is more forbidden than the harm that does not go beyond the one harmed.

The questioner : Then, may Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.

The questioner : Shaykh, you mentioned, O our Shaykh, several times that perhaps some of these intoxicated people are not always intoxicated; they are not affected in terms of the body. They might get intoxicated once or twice a year on an occasion, and this does not affect them in terms of illness. But smoking is with them constantly and is very harmful.
The student : And I am among the people who are harmed by smoking, meaning...

The Shaykh: Allahu Akbar.
The student : ...cars... and I mean I do not believe it when I get out of the car when one of the passengers is smoking in it.
Another student: By Allah, O our Shaykh, I realized the value... when I sold my car.
Another student: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.
