The Ruling on Smoking

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This listener (A. A. S.) from Libya asks and says: Are cigarettes—that is, smoking—forbidden, lawful, or disliked? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Smoking contains great evil and many harms to health and wealth. It is also one of the sins that anger Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). It is obligatory to leave it because of the many harms it contains. It is a waste of wealth without right, and a squandering of wealth without right. It is harmful to the servant's health, and it is not permissible for him to harm himself or to consume what harms him. It may also cause intoxication, and in some cases, if one delays it for a long time and then consumes it, some people may become intoxicated by it, and some people may become drowsy from it. The point is that it is an evil and forbidden, and it is not permissible to consume it, sell it, or buy it because of the many harms it contains.
So you, O servant of Allah, must leave it and warn against it, and every Muslim must warn against it. It is not permissible for anyone to sell it to people or bring it to people. This is an evil that is not permissible, and it is from cooperating in sin and aggression. So we ask Allah for guidance for everyone.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
