Continuation of the explanation of the hadith of Abu Hurayrah regarding his statement: (or the smoke), and clarification of the meaning of the smoke in His saying, the Exalted
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What I intended from this hadith is that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the smoke, we understood from it that it is a great affliction that will encompass all the people of the earth. However, we do not rule out that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will treat His servants at that time in a way that exempts them from the hardship of life, the severity, and the punishment that the disbelievers will suffer because of this smoke; as came in some previous hadiths that when Allah (Mighty and Majestic) intends to establish the Hour, He sends a pleasant wind that takes the soul of every Muslim on the face of the earth, so that none remain except the worst of creation, and upon them the Hour will be established.
And perhaps in the other opportunity, al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir mentioned in the verse:[Ad-Dukhan 44:10-11]; he mentioned in the interpretation of this verse some of the hadiths narrated regarding the smoke, which is a sign of the signs of the Hour, but these hadiths are not free from weakness, even though he—meaning al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir—held the view of strengthening and improving some of them. However, it became clear to me through a brief study that he was not correct in that, but the matter still requires further verification of those chains of narration, and perhaps I will bring you the answer in another lesson, if Allah wills.
And before I conclude my speech on this verse from the six verses, which is the smoke; I want to remind you that the previous verse:[Ad-Dukhan 44:10] apparently does not mean the smoke that is a sign of the signs of the Hour. It is established in "al-Sahihayn" from the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the smoke mentioned in the verse afflicted the polytheists during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So the smoke mentioned in the hadith is other than the smoke mentioned in the verse.
And we stop here to complete the commentary—may Allah will it—in the next lesson on the rest of the hadith.
And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His messenger,[Ali 'Imran 3:102], [An-Nisa 4:1], [Al-Ahzab 33:70-71], As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
Our previous lesson was the last hadith, which is the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 2947a Narrated by Muslim. And we had spoken about some of the paragraphs and reached the smoke. We mentioned that this smoke mentioned in this hadith is other than the smoke mentioned in the verse in which the smoke was mentioned, and this is according to the saying of some scholars. The important thing is that this smoke mentioned in this hadith is a sign of the signs of the Hour. We mentioned that nothing regarding the description of this smoke has come in the authentic Sunnah. And when I say authentic, I mean that there are narrations containing weakness in their chains of narration that detail this smoke, and that it takes the hearts of the disbelievers and they die of suffocation, unlike the believers; for it does not affect them.
And perhaps in the other opportunity, al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir mentioned in the verse:
(10) Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. (11) Covering the people; this is a painful torment.
And before I conclude my speech on this verse from the six verses, which is the smoke; I want to remind you that the previous verse:
Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke.
And we stop here to complete the commentary—may Allah will it—in the next lesson on the rest of the hadith.
And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His messenger,
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
Our previous lesson was the last hadith, which is the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Hasten to do good deeds before six things happen: the rising of the sun from the west, the smoke, the Dajjal, the beast and (the death) of one of you or the general turmoil.
