The questioner : The questioner says: That during his tawaf for his 'Umrah, a smell came from him, but he continued to perform his 'Umrah. What should he do, and is his 'Umrah accepted?

The Shaykh : He means by the smell that he became ritually impure, meaning he became ritually impure during the tawaf. If a person becomes ritually impure during the tawaf, it is obligatory for him, according to the majority of the scholars, to go out, perform wudu', and repeat the tawaf from the beginning, because one of the conditions of tawaf is ritual purity. However, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "There is no authentic, explicit hadith regarding the obligation of purity for tawaf". Based on his opinion, we say to this brother that his 'Umrah is valid. As for the first opinion, it is obligatory for him now to put on the clothes of ihram, return, and perform tawaf in a state of purity, then perform sa'y, then shorten his hair, and then exit the state of ihram.
