The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : I booked this past year, and after I intended to perform 'Umrah, while I was sitting in the car, one of the passengers applied perfume to the person next to me. When he offered me that oil and put it on my hand, I put it on my hand, and I knew the ruling, but I was just being polite. After he left, I wiped it off with a cloth. What is the ruling?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible for a person to be polite to anyone in the obedience of Allah the Exalted, so that he disobeys Allah for the sake of politeness. It is obligatory for you, when this perfume was offered to you, to say that it is not permissible for one in the state of ihram. He sees that you are in the state of ihram now, but it may be hidden from him that it is forbidden for one in the state of ihram to use perfume, and perhaps he would forget and apply perfume to you. In this case, it is obligatory for you to say, "My brother, perfume is forbidden for one in the state of ihram." And based on the fact that you did not do this, and were polite to him in the disobedience of Allah, it is obligatory for you to repent to Allah for what you did. The scholars say, yes? The scholars say: It is obligatory for you to do one of three things: either slaughter a sheep there in Makkah and give it in charity to the poor, or feed six poor people, half a sa' for each poor person, there as well, or fast three days, even in your country. They also said: It is permissible to slaughter the sheep and feed the poor in Makkah, and it is permissible in the place where the prohibited act was done. Yes.
