The Shaykh : And I am reciting the hadith to you now. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 1015 And Allah commanded the believers with what He commanded the messengers, so He the Exalted said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:51] And He the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:172]. Then He mentioned the man who lengthens his journey, disheveled and covered in dust, stretching his hands to the sky, saying, "O my Lord, O my Lord," while his food is forbidden, his clothing is forbidden, and he is nourished with what is forbidden. How then will he be answered? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned four of the causes for the acceptance of supplication: lengthening the journey, being disheveled and covered in dust, stretching his hands to the sky, and supplicating to Allah the Exalted by His Lordship, by which creation and management are established, saying, "O my Lord, O my Lord." He has thus done these four things which are causes for the acceptance of supplication. And yet, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How" is a noun, a noun of interrogation intended to express improbability. Why will he not be answered? It is improbable that he will be answered? He said: His food is forbidden, his drink is forbidden, his clothing is forbidden, he is nourished with what is forbidden. So it is improbable that Allah will answer him despite the presence of the causes for acceptance.
