A man whose mother is bedridden and unable to perform the acts of Hajj: should the son perform Hajj on her behalf, given that the journey is difficult for her to undertake while being carried?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: “May the Shaykh be respected, I have a mother who is bedridden and unable to perform the acts of Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on her behalf, knowing that the journey is difficult for her to undertake while being carried?”

The Shaykh : If it is an obligatory Hajj, meaning she has the financial means, then you perform Hajj on her behalf. If it is a voluntary Hajj, meaning she has no financial means, or she has the means but has already performed Hajj, then the correct view is also that there is no harm in it. That is, there is no harm in a person performing Hajj voluntarily on behalf of someone who is unable to perform Hajj. As for the one who is able, meaning a person who is capable of performing Hajj himself but appoints someone to perform it on his behalf, there is a point of consideration regarding whether that suffices for him. This is because Hajj is an act of worship that a person performs himself if he is able; otherwise, he does not appoint someone to perform Hajj on his behalf except for the obligatory Hajj. As you know, if a person is unable to perform the obligatory Hajj, has the financial means, and his inability is not expected to end, then he appoints someone to perform Hajj and 'Umrah on his behalf.
