Part Two: Visiting the Sacred Lands.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Some people spend this vacation by traveling to the sacred lands, to Makkah and al-Madinah, and they gain good from this. They perform 'Umrah and visit the Prophet's Mosque, and perhaps they meet brothers who have come from here and there, so each one shares with the other the problems and worries he has. The believer is to the believer like a building, each part strengthening the other. A person must complain to his friend, and to the one who gives him sincere advice, he must share the matters in his heart so that he can show him how to remove these matters. These people need to know how to perform 'Umrah and how to visit the Prophet's Mosque, so that they do not go there in vain or in a state of heedlessness. They must know what to do if they want to perform 'Umrah, and what to do if they want to visit. We will address this with a brief explanation.
One leaves his country intending to perform 'Umrah, so that his journey from his country until he performs 'Umrah is in a good state. He arrives at the miqat and enters the state of ihram, saying, "Labbaik 'Umrah." He comes to the House and performs tawaf around it seven times, prays behind the Maqam, and performs sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah. He stays there as long as he wishes. If he wants to return and leave Makkah for his country, he performs the farewell tawaf.
As for the visit, he comes to al-Madinah and prays in the Prophet's Mosque as much as he wishes, then he goes to the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the graves of his two companions, Abu Bakr and 'Umar. He stands facing the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and greets him. The best form of greeting him is: "Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad." Then he takes a step to his right to be facing Abu Bakr and says to him: "Peace be upon you, O Successor of the Messenger of Allah, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. May Allah reward you with good for the Ummah of Muhammad." Then he takes another step to his right to be facing 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and says: "Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. May Allah reward you with good for the Ummah of Muhammad." The visit is complete.
It is recommended that he go to Quba from his house in a state of ritual purity and pray in it as much as he wishes, two rak'ahs or more, because Quba is one of the mosques whose visitation is recommended. However, one does not travel specifically to it, but if you are in al-Madinah, go to it in a state of ritual purity and pray in it as much as you wish. It has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
That whoever performs wudu in his house and then goes out to Quba is like one who has performed 'Umrah. أن من توضأ في بيته ثم خرج إلى قباء كان كمن أدى عمرة
So these are two places of visitation. What is the first place of visitation? The first place of visitation
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, in al-Madinah: the grave of the Messenger (may peace and blessings be upon him) and the graves of his two companions. The second: the Mosque of Quba.
The third: al-Baqi'. Al-Baqi' is the burial place of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). You visit al-Baqi' and greet them generally with what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to greet them with,
Peace be upon you, abode of a people of faith, and we, if Allah wills, are to follow you. You are our predecessors and we are in the trail. May Allah have mercy on those of you who go before and those who come after. We ask Allah for well-being for us and for you. O Allah, do not deprive us of their reward, and do not test us after them, and forgive us and them.
, and you greet 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) specifically, and his grave is known there.
Then the third place of visitation is Uhud.
The student: The fourth.

The Shaykh : Yes, the fourth: Yes, the martyrs of Uhud. You go to Uhud to greet them, and you stand there at the fence at the gate of the cemetery and greet them. The martyrs of Uhud, at their head is Hamzah ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib, the uncle of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
As for the seven mosques and what is said about the places of visitation there, all of this has no basis and no truth. Therefore, do not be deceived by what is mentioned about the places of visitation, for it has no basis and no truth.
Some people think that it is necessary for whoever visits al-Madinah to stay there for five prayer times, and this is not correct. Rather, if you pray one prayer time, or if you come in the morning and pray in the mosque and travel before the midday prayer, there is no harm. This is the second type of people.
The first type is? The one who devotes himself to seeking knowledge. The second: the one who travels to Makkah and al-Madinah.
