The questioner : This questioner says: “May the Shaykh be respected, I am a married woman with children, and I work as a teacher in a school. But the problem lies between me and my father, may Allah guide him, for he is a man who loves money. He wants a monthly salary from me and is not satisfied with a small amount. For example, a thousand riyals are nothing to him, even though he is not in need. In fact, he has houses for rent, he has a retirement pension, and he has half-siblings of mine. He has not been successful in his marriages after my mother’s passing; in every period, he takes a wife and then divorces her. All this is for the sake of knowing that he is not in need of material wealth. However, my husband refuses to let me give him anything from my salary. My father is now angry with me and does not accept my visits or my phone calls with him. He resorts to cursing and insulting me in front of my other siblings, even though I have not been short with him in anything in the past years, as I was the one he loved. So what should I do? May Allah guide you in this situation.”

The Shaykh : I hope that this father will hear my words. I say to him: Fear Allah regarding yourself, since Allah has made you wealthy, and you have half-siblings of this girl. It is feared that you will take money from her to return it for the benefit of her brothers. The scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, mentioned: “It is not permissible for a father to take money from one of his children to give it to another child, because this is injustice and oppression”. Just as it is not permissible for a father to show kindness to one of his children with a favor to the exclusion of the other, so it is not permissible for him to take from one person and give to another.
And I advise this father and say to him: Let this woman live happily with her husband, and her money is hers. You, Allah has made you wealthy, and always remember the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful. وَمَنْ يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ
[Al-Hashr 59:9]
And remember the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Beware of stinginess, for it is only stinginess that destroyed those who came before you. إياكم والشح فإنما أهلك من كان قبلكم الشح
Sahih Ibn Hibban 38:17

As for the daughter, I see that she should be patient, seek reward from Allah, and give her father what satisfies him. Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
You and your wealth belong to your father أنت ومالك لأبيك
And if it is possible, she should speak to him with gentleness and softness, saying: “I fear that giving you money will be the cause of my separation from my husband, because my husband says, ‘Do not give him anything.’” And she should try to convince him, perhaps Allah will guide him. Yes.
