If one forgets to enter the state of ihram or is preoccupied with it on the plane until he passes the miqat, is it permissible for him to return by land to the miqat and enter the state of ihram from there?

The questioner : He says: May the Shaykh please address my question: If one forgets to enter the state of ihram or is preoccupied with it on the plane until he passes the miqat, is it permissible for him to return by land to the miqat and enter the state of ihram from there?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is permissible. And we are giving you a rule now: If a person passes the miqat without entering the state of ihram from it, then if he enters the state of ihram from a place beyond the miqat, a sacrificial animal is obligatory upon him. But if he returns to the miqat and enters the state of ihram from there, he owes nothing. Based on this, suppose he boarded a plane from the Qassim airport intending to perform 'Umrah, then he landed in Jeddah before entering the state of ihram. We tell him: Either go to Dhul-Hulaifah, the miqat for the people of Madinah, and enter the state of ihram from there, or if you enter the state of ihram from Jeddah, a sacrificial animal is obligatory upon you. Yes.
