In these days, wedding feasts and other celebrations are frequent, and some people exaggerate in buying oud - I mean

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: Your Eminence, in these days, wedding feasts and other celebrations are frequent, and some people exaggerate in buying oud, I mean: incense, so that its value reaches astronomical amounts. And when they are questioned about it, they cite what is narrated from 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, where he said:
If a man spent all his wealth on perfume, he would not be extravagant لو أنفق الرجل ماله كله في الطيب لم يكن مسرفاً
What is your opinion, may Allah guide you?

The Shaykh : Our answer is: Perfume is undoubtedly beloved, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I have been made to love from your worldly life women and perfume, and I have made the coolness of my eyes in prayer حبب إليَّ من دنياكم النساء والطيب، وجعلت قرة عيني في الصلاة
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:849
The truth is that if perfume does not exceed its proper limit, there is no extravagance in it. For example, if people come to this place in groups, and perfume is placed for each group as they arrive, this is not extravagance. Even if the perfume for the first group is repeated, it is truly not extravagance, because the last perfume is for those who came last. So we say: there is no extravagance in this. But if someone brings a lot of perfume and lets it burn throughout the long gathering without need for it, then this is extravagance.
