The Shaykh : The Prophets bequeathed only one thing, which is knowledge. Whoever takes it takes a great share. However, it is obligatory for the scholars who have inherited the Prophets in their knowledge to inherit the Prophets in: first, their worship; second, their calling to Allah (Mighty and Majestic); and third, their morals. This is a necessity. Therefore, it is obligatory for the scholar, first, to be among the quickest of people to worship Allah, because he calls people to worship; how can he call them to it while he is turning away from it? For this reason, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), whom Allah entrusted with the greatest message, was the most fearful of people and the most mindful of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). He would stand in the late-night prayer until his legs and feet would swell from the length of standing. Once, Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman stood with him, and he was younger than the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Hudhayfah said: "He recited Surat al-Baqarah, and I thought: he will stop at the hundredth verse, meaning the hundredth verse. But the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) continued until he finished Surat al-Baqarah, then he began Surat al-Nisa' and finished it, then Surat Ali 'Imran and finished it. Three surahs; how many parts is that? Five and a quarter parts." And Hudhayfah said: So his standing would be long. Ibn Mas'ud also prayed with him and he prolonged the standing (peace and blessings be upon him). Ibn Mas'ud said: Sahih Muslim 773a And Ibn Mas'ud was young. They said: Riyad as-Salihin 1174 .
So I say: The one who inherits the Prophets, whom Allah has blessed with knowledge, must inherit them in worship as well, so that he becomes among the most devoted of people in worship to Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
He would not pass by a verse of glorification without glorifying, or a verse of mercy without asking for it, or a verse of warning without seeking refuge.
كان لا يمر بآية تسبيح إلا سبح، أو آية رحمة إلا سأل، أو آية وعيد إلا تعوذtill I entertained an evil thought
حتى هممت بأمر سوءWhat did you intend to do?" He replied: "I intended to sit down and stop following him (in Salat).
ماذا هممت ؟ قال: هممت أن أجلس وأدعهSo I say: The one who inherits the Prophets, whom Allah has blessed with knowledge, must inherit them in worship as well, so that he becomes among the most devoted of people in worship to Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
