The questioner : He says:The questioner : Allah the Exalted said:
It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels
[Al-Ahzab 33:43]

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : He says, Allah the Exalted said:
It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels
[Al-Ahzab 33:43]
And the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allhumma, salli ala ali abi awfa(O Allah! Send blessing upon the family of Abu Awfa).
Sunan Ibn Majah 1796Sahih (Darussalam)
He saysThe questioner : Does this not indicate the permissibility of us saying, for example, "Imam Malik (peace and blessings be upon him)" or "Imam Ahmad (peace and blessings be upon him)" or the like?

The Shaykh : Yes, sending blessings upon other than the prophets, if it is incidental, there is no doubt in its permissibility, and the scholars have agreed upon this. Indeed, every Muslim says, "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." But if it is independent, and if you make it a slogan for this person, such that whenever we mention him we say "peace and blessings be upon him," then this is not permissible, because this implies that we associate him with whom?
The student: With the prophets.

The Shaykh : With the prophets, and this is not permissible. But if it is mentioned for a reason, then there is nothing wrong with it, as Allah the Exalted said:
Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [Allah 's blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them
[At-Tawbah 9:103]
And he (peace and blessings be upon him), when someone brought him his charity, would say:
O Allah! Bestow Your Blessing upon the family of so-and-so.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6332
Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : So how many categories are there? How many categories?
The student: Three.

The Shaykh : Three. Incidental is permissible, and non-incidental is not permissible?
The student: Permissible.

The Shaykh : Permissible. Independent, as a slogan for this person, this is not permissible. Independent, for a reason that necessitates it, this is permissible. Yes.
