We complain to Allah, then to you, that a number of young men are not seen praying the Fajr prayer these days, and the reason is that they perhaps stayed up late and slept.

The questioner : He says: The questioner: We complain to Allah, then to you, that a number of young men are not seen praying the Fajr prayer these days, and the reason is that they perhaps stayed up late and slept. So what is your advice for them, and what is the ruling on one who leaves the Fajr prayer until the sun rises, and this is done continuously?

The Shaykh : Yes. As for our advice to these people, it appears that our speech on this matter is a matter of repetition. Everyone knows that it is not permissible for a person to stay up all night and leave the Fajr prayer. As for those who delay the Fajr prayer until its time has passed, while they are able to pray within the time, their prayer is not accepted, even if they pray it a thousand times. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
meaning: it is returned to him. And whoever delays the prayer from its time without a valid legal excuse has done a deed for which there is no command from Allah and His Messenger, so it is returned to him. However, he must repent to Allah, increase in righteous deeds, and ask Allah for safety. Yes.
