The questioner : The final question asks whether there is anything between the appearance of the second dawn and the Fajr prayer other than the two rak'ahs of Fajr, and whether the one who prays between the appearance of the dawn and the Fajr prayer more than the Sunnah of Fajr commits a sin or not?

The Shaykh : The correct view is that if a person prays between the appearance of the dawn and the Fajr prayer a prayer other than the Sunnah of Fajr, he does not commit a sin, because the time of prohibition does not begin until after the Fajr prayer, as established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) specifically tied to it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : However, it is not from the Sunnah to pray more than the two rak'ahs of Fajr, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to not pray when the dawn appeared except two light rak'ahs, which are the regular voluntary prayer of Fajr, unless there is a reason for it, such as if a person prays the regular voluntary prayer of Fajr in his house and then comes to the mosque before the iqamah, he does not sit until he prays two rak'ahs as the greeting of the mosque.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Once he prays them, he sits and waits for the iqamah of the prayer.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
