The innovation of celebrating the night of the Isra and Mi'raj.

The Shaykh : There is an innovation occurring on a global scale in the month of Rajab, which is the innovation of the night of the Mi'raj. The night of the Mi'raj is the night on which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was raised to the highest heavens. He was first taken by night from Makkah to Bayt al-Maqdis: [Al-Isra 17:1] and he met the prophets there and led them in prayer as imam. Then Jibril took him with him to the heavens, opening each one after another until he reached the seventh heaven. In fact, he reached a place where he heard the scratching of the pens, which were writing down the decrees and destinies of Allah. He reached the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic) addressed him. Allah obligated upon him the five prayers as fifty prayers, then they were reduced to five. What night was this? And in which month? No one can specify it. For this reason, the historians differed on it with multiple opinions and did not agree on anything. Why? Not because it was an easy, trivial event, but rather, by Allah, it was a great event. But you know that the Arabs were what? Illiterate; they did not read or write, and they did not record history except by the Year of the Elephant and the like. So they did not specify that night as a particular night. And what is famous, that it is the twenty-seventh night of Rajab, has no basis in history. Then, even if it were established that he was taken by night on that night, meaning the twenty-seventh night, do we have the right to introduce any acts of worship in it, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do so, nor did the Rightly Guided Caliphs, nor the Companions, nor the imams? Do we have the right to make it a festival? We do not have the right to make it a festival where we close the schools, close the offices, and consider it a recurring festival. We do not have that right. We have predecessors in the religion of Allah: who are they? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions. If they did it, it is upon our eyes and heads. If they did not do it, then leaving it is a sunnah, because they left it. For this reason, we say: the sunnah is either establishing something or leaving it. So, whatever whose cause existed in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he did not do it, that is evidence that leaving it is what? It is the sunnah. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not hold prayers or supplications for this night, nor did he make it a festival. And unfortunately, many Muslims cling to these innovative matters for which Allah has not sent down any authority, and you find them in matters where the sunnah is established, they are not active in them, but rather negligent. In fact, if a person did them, they would say: he is an innovator. And this is what caused the Muslims to lag behind and regress, because they did not look at their predecessors with a limited view that does not extend beyond the century they are in to the far distance of the time of the righteous Salaf. And this, by Allah, is a great harm. So, what is our position regarding the twenty-seventh night of Rajab when it passes us by? That it passes like any other night, and its day like any other day, and we do not raise our heads for it, and we do not see any harm in not holding celebrations for it, and we do not see any harm in not holding celebrations for it, because it is not a sunnah. And the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him). For this reason, my brothers, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to repeat in every Friday sermon: Sahih Muslim 867a Why? Because he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions: Sunan al-Bayhaqi 17:1232 People differed and introduced into the religion of Allah what is not part of it, until this lagging that we witness today occurred. We ask Allah to restore the glory and honor of the Muslim community.
