Question 11 from Fatwa No. ( 3323 ):
Q11: What is the ruling on celebrating the Prophet's Mawlid and the Night of the Isra and Mi'raj with the intention of Islamic da'wah, and the banner of Islam, as seen in Indonesia?
A11: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called to Islam through speech, action, and jihad in the path of Allah. He was the most knowledgeable about the path of calling to it, spreading it, and manifesting its rites. It was not part of his guidance in calling to Islam and manifesting its rites to celebrate his birth, nor to celebrate the Isra and Mi'raj, even though he knew the value of these matters and gave them their due. His Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) followed his path and were guided by his guidance in calling to Islam and spreading it. They did not celebrate these occasions or their like among major events. Nor was the celebration of these known from the recognized scholars of Islam, the people of the Sunnah and the community (may Allah have mercy on them). Rather, it is known from the innovators in religion and the extremists in it, such as the Rafidah and the other sects of the Shi'ah , and others whose knowledge of the pure Shari'ah is little. Therefore, celebrating what was mentioned is a blameworthy religious innovation (bid'ah) because it contradicts the guidance of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and the scholars of the righteous Salaf in the three best centuries (may Allah be pleased with them). It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih Muslim 1718a, and he said: Sahih Muslim 1718b, and he said:
Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani) ... the hadith. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو ردHe who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو ردAvoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error.
