The questioner : A questioner says: “O honorable Shaykh, I have a sister who is five years old who does not pray or fast, and she is of sound mind, and she does not make up Ramadan. She has obsessive thoughts, O Shaykh. What is the ruling regarding her? And does she have to fast, or is she among those from whom the pen has been lifted?”
The Shaykh : I ask Allah to grant her health. O Allah, grant her health. O Allah, grant her health. There is no doubt that the matter of waswas (whispers) is grave. Some of those afflicted with it are completely unable to perform worship; some of them faint when they try to force themselves to do so. However, it is obligatory for the one afflicted with waswas to frequently seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, to frequently remember Allah, to frequently recite the Qur'an, and to force himself to perform obedience even if it is difficult. He will be tired once, twice, or three times, but in the end, this will disappear, by the permission of Allah, because waswas is from Shaytan.[An-Nas 114:4-5] From whom? [Hud 11:119]. So he began with Paradise. And the Shayatins are from the jinn. And the jinn are from the Shayatins. [Al-Kahf 18:50]. So Shaytan's offspring are the jinn. As the Exalted said: From whom? [Ar-Rahman 55:15]. And Shaytan said to the Lord, Mighty and Majestic: [Al-A'raf 7:12], and it is known that if Shaytan sees a turn away from the obedience of Allah by the children of Adam through waswas, he will tire them in this. But it is only a little fatigue, and then it disappears. And this, praise be to Allah, is proven. That is, people of this type always contact us, and if they force themselves to do so, it disappears from them, by the permission of Allah.
And I ask Allah for this afflicted woman that He heal her soon, without delay. Amen.
