I am a committed young man, and I sit in these blessed nights in a rest area with some young men, but someone may come who smokes, and someone may come who smokes shisha.

The questioner : He says: O honorable Shaykh, I am a committed young man, and I sit in these blessed nights.

The Shaykh : Are you studying?

The questioner : I sit in these blessed nights in a rest area with some young men. But someone may come who smokes, and someone may come who smokes shisha. So what should I do in this situation?

The Shaykh : Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart من رأى منكم منكرا فليغيره بيده فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه
Sahih Muslim 49a
. So if someone attends your gatherings and smokes, advise him first, advise him. If he stops, that is good for you and for him. If he does not stop and you are able to remove him from the place, remove him, because you are able to change the evil with your hand. If you are not able, because the place belongs to someone else, then leave, because you were not able with your tongue and you are not able with your action. What remains? The heart. The heart cannot deny something and remain with its owner, never. Leave.
