The questioner : He says: Noble Shaykh, is fasting six days of Shawwal a confirmed recommended practice or not? Because I heard from some of the brothers that they said: It is not a recommended practice, nor is it confirmed. Rather, the confirmed ones are the white days, and Thursdays and Mondays. As for the six days of Shawwal, they were not reported except in Muslim, and no one else mentioned them. So what is your opinion, may Allah guide you?

The Shaykh : We say that it is a recommended practice (sunnah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged it, as he said:
He who observed the fast of Ramadan and then followed it with six (fasts) of Shawwal. it would be as if he fasted perpetually. من صام رمضان ثم أتبعه ستا من شوال كان كصيام الدهر
Sahih Muslim 1164a
. And if Muslim has narrated it alone, hypothetically, meaning if we assume he narrated it alone, then Sahih Muslim is accepted by the scholars. And there is no contradiction in this hadith with any other hadiths. And the fact that some people do not consider it recommended does not mean that it is not recommended in the sight of Allah. So the correct view is that it is among the matters that are sought after and recommended, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) encouraged and incited people to do. But if a person believes that it is obligatory (fard) such that if he fasts it in one year, he thinks it is binding on him to fast it every year, that is not the case. It is a recommended practice (sunnah); whoever fasts it obtains the reward, and whoever does not fast it, he bears no sin.
Yes.
