Among the conditions of the 'Id sacrifice: that it be slaughtered within the time prescribed by the Shari'ah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The first condition: that it be from the livestock of the herd. The second: that it has reached the required age. The third: that it be free from defects. The fourth: that it be during the time of the 'Id sacrifice. During the time of the 'Id sacrifice. When is the time of the 'Id sacrifice? From the prayer of the day of 'Id, from the prayer of 'Id on the day of 'Id until the setting of the sun on the thirteenth day. So how many days are the days of slaughter? The day of 'Id. From the prayer of 'Id until the setting of the sun on the thirteenth day, four, four days. Slaughtering is permissible in them at night and during the day. And the better: the day is better than the night. And the first day is better than the one following it. If one slaughters before the second taslim of the day of 'Id, it is not accepted, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever slaughters before the prayer, his sheep is just a sheep of meat من ذبح قبل الصلاة فشاته شاة لحم
. It is not accepted. Good. What about one who slaughters after the setting of the sun on the night of the thirteenth? It is not accepted because it is after the time, except in one case: if a man relied on his son, for example. He said: "O my son, sacrifice." The son was negligent or forgot and did not sacrifice. And the father was determined to sacrifice but had appointed his son. The son did not do it. And the father thought that what? That he had sacrificed. And after the setting of the sun on the night of the thirteenth, the matter was discussed between them. So he said, "I did not sacrifice." The son says this. We say there is no harm now in sacrificing, and it becomes what? It becomes making up (qada'), it becomes making up (qada'), because this was from his intention to sacrifice in the time but he forgot. Good. And the better is that a person himself takes charge of slaughtering his 'Id sacrifice. As for flaying it and cutting its meat, that is an easy matter. But the important thing is that he slaughters it himself. Does he lay the sheep or goat on the left side or the right side? Hmm? The left side? Yes. He lays it on the left side. First: because it is easier for him, because he will slaughter with the right hand. Second: perhaps the left side is closer to the heart. So it is faster for the blood to come out. And the faster the blood comes out, the easier the death. If he says: "I do not know how to slaughter with the right hand." He does not know how to slaughter except with the left hand. On which side does he lay it? He lays it on the right side, because if he lays it on the left side, he cannot manage it except with difficulty and harm to the animal. Is the cow slaughtered or ritually slaughtered (nahr)? It is slaughtered, it is slaughtered. And on this basis, it is laid on the left side and the person slaughters it. And if he wants to slaughter, he is required to do things: First: that he slaughters with a sharp knife, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
Let one of you sharpen his blade وليحد أحدكم شفرته
. Second: that he does not sharpen it while it is looking. If he wants to sharpen it - meaning to whet it - he does not do that while the animal is looking. Why? Because it gets frightened; it knows that if he whets the knife in front of it and has laid it down, he wants to slaughter it, so it gets frightened. Also: he does not slaughter it while the other one is looking, because it gets frightened too. If it sees its sister being laid down and slaughtered, it gets frightened. For this reason, we find sometimes that if one is slaughtered in front of its sister, the other one runs away. It runs away and they cannot catch it except with great difficulty. Good. Also: it is recommended (mustahabb) when slaughtering that he slaughters with strength and determination, because if he makes it throw easily and hesitates in the slaughter, the animal is harmed. Rather, he throws with strength and speed, because that is easier. And when he slaughters, let him say: "In the name of Allah" when he moves his hand to slaughter. And he adds to that "Allah is the Greatest." The obligatory is saying: "In the name of Allah." As for "Allah is the Greatest," it is recommended (mustahabb). And he also says: "O Allah, this is from You and for You." From You: in creation, and for You: in worship, because who is it who made this sheep or cow or camel easy for you? Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And for Him in worship. So you say: "O Allah, this is from You and for You." O Allah, this is on my behalf and on behalf of my family, or you say: "O Allah, accept from me and from my family." Yes. And it is not permissible to break its neck until it dies. And some who do not fear Allah and do not have mercy on the creation of Allah break its neck before it dies because it is faster for its death. But there is harm to it. Be patient and it will die; as long as the blood is coming out, when the blood is shed, it must die. But some people - we ask Allah for well-being - break its neck so that it dies quickly. And this is forbidden (haram) and not lawful. And likewise we say: it is not prescribed to flay it until what? Until it dies, because flaying it causes it pain. As long as the soul is in it, flaying it causes it pain. You wound it and cut its skin, it must feel pain. So wait until its soul departs, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
He prohibited us from flaying the animals until their souls depart نهى أن نجعل الأنفس حتى تزهق
