The Monthly Meeting Series-44b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The honorable Shaykh says: In these times, there is severe crowding around the pillars. Is it permissible for a man to appoint a proxy for his mother or his wife to stone the pillars, because stoning causes hardship for the woman? What is the ruling on appointing a proxy for this?

The Shaykh : There is no doubt that it causes great hardship for women. But if the hardship is due to the crowding, the remedy is to stone at night. The night is spacious, and praise be to Allah. As for if the hardship is on the body, because she cannot walk, for example, except with severe hardship, or if she is a pregnant woman, then we say: there is nothing wrong with her appointing a proxy. And if she appoints a proxy, it is permissible for the proxy to stone the pillar on behalf of himself and on her behalf in one standing. For example, he stones the first pillar on the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth days with seven pebbles on behalf of himself, then he stones it on behalf of the one who appointed him, then the second on behalf of himself, then on behalf of the one who appointed him, then the third on behalf of himself, then on behalf of the one who appointed him. Yes.
