The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : We gather every day in a break room. And with us is an older young man who constantly shaves his beard. And when we tell him: shaving the beard is forbidden. He says: there is no explicit evidence for its prohibition. He argues with us using this statement, and we were unable to respond to him due to our great respect for him, because he is older than us in knowledge. Knowing that this tape will be heard by him, if Allah wills, and he is currently sitting with us in this meeting, and we love him and feel compassion for him. Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : May Allah reward everyone with good. And returning to the truth is a virtue. No doubt, if we were to offer a person a choice between two paths: the path of the Zoroastrians and the path of the Prophets. What would he choose? Every believer would choose the path of the Prophets. The Prophets, and at their head their final one Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), all of them grow beards. And the Zoroastrians shave their beards. So choose for yourself whichever of the two paths you wish. For this reason, we do not see an excuse for anyone to deviate from the truth after the truth has become clear to him. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:. And this was the custom of people before. We did not know that anyone shaved their beard. Rather, they told us: some of the unjust rulers punish a person by shaving his beard, making that a discretionary punishment. And the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) stated in the book of discretionary punishments: that it is not permissible to impose a discretionary punishment by shaving the beard. This indicates that it was a habit of some of the unjust rulers. So how is it that now a person loses money in shaving it. And loses the most important thing, which is that he loses following the Messenger (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) and obeying his command? So we hope for our brother whom you respect, we ask Allah the Exalted to grant him guidance and to let his beard grow in obedience to the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and following his Sunnah.
