May Allah have bestowed upon me the gift of repentance, and I have tasted the sweetness of faith and the sweetness that follows it, and Allah opened up for me the knowledge of His verses. After that, things changed and I lost the sweetness.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah have bestowed upon me the gift of repentance, and I have tasted the sweetness of faith and the sweetness that follows it, and Allah opened up for me understanding and knowledge of His verses. After that, things changed and I lost the sweetness of faith, and my worries and whispers increased, some of which are disbelief in Allah if I were to speak them, and I do not approve of that. So what is the action to take to find what I was in before? And is there any sin on me for that?

The Shaykh : Yes. You have heard this question. A man to whom Allah granted guidance, and he tasted the taste of faith and his light increased, but after that Satan took hold of him, so whispers and doubts began to occur in his mind that reach the level of disbelief if he were to speak them. So what is the way out?
The answer to that, O brothers: By His wisdom, Allah the Mighty and Majestic did not send down a disease without sending down a cure for it, even for spiritual and psychological matters, Allah sent down a cure for them. So what is the cure?
The cure is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was complained to by the Companions about what occurred in their hearts of matters they wished they would fall from the sky rather than speak about, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered his Companions to stop that, and to seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
People will keep asking: Who created this? Who created this? Who created this? Until they say: Who created Allah?
.
I seek refuge in Allah. If it were said now, who created the heavens? Who created the earth? Who created the mountains? Who created man? Who created animals? For all of that we say Allah. Then Satan says to the person, casting into his heart: Who created Allah? We ask Allah for safety.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So if one of you finds that, let him seek refuge in Allah and let him stop. فإذا وجد أحدكم ذلك فَلْيَسْتَعِذْ بِاللهِ وَلْيَنْتَهِ
. One seeks refuge in Allah, saying: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, and one stops, turns away, and discards this agitation completely. This happens regarding the Creator the Mighty and Majestic, and it also happens regarding acts of worship. A person comes and performs a complete ablution, then Satan says to him: Your ablution is not complete. Then he goes and performs ablution, and he says: It is not complete. He goes and performs ablution, and so on. What is the cure for these whispers?
Stopping. You say: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, and you stop.
And you say—if you performed ablution the first time, even if it occurs to you that you did not perform ablution—say: Let it be. Satan comes to a person in his prayer and says to you: You did not say the takbir of ihram. The person goes to his prayer place or stands in the row and says the takbir, then Satan comes to him and says: You did not say the takbir of ihram. He says the takbir a second time, and he says to him: You did not say it. He says the takbir a third time. This is something witnessed in those who are afflicted with whispers. So what is the way to this?
That he seeks refuge in Allah and stops. He says: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, and he stops.
Fine, if he said the takbir the first time and claimed in his mind that he did not say it, what does he do? We say: He stops and considers himself to have said the takbir, and he does not repeat the takbir. If he repeats the takbir, the door of whispers opens for him.
Some people are afflicted regarding their wives. Satan says to him: You have divorced your wife. Some of them, when they open the mushaf to read, say: I said that if I open the mushaf, my wife is divorced.
So he does not open the mushaf, because Satan said to him: You said that if you open the mushaf, your wife is divorced.
He comes to pray and says in his mind: I said that if I pray, my wife is divorced. So I will not pray. Look how Satan plays with the children of Adam.
So what is the cure for this thing?
Its cure is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided to: that you say: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, and you stop. And do not act upon this at all, and do not worry about it.
Is it clear, O group? Fine.
So, this brother whom Allah guided to faith, and who tasted the sweetness of faith and increased in it, and then these whispers occurred to him, we say to him: Be glad, for this is the clarity of faith. And Satan did not come to you with these whispers except to turn you away from faith. So seek refuge in Allah and stop, and do not worry.
It was said to Abdullah ibn Abbas or Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both), it was said to him:
The Jews say: We are not afflicted with whispers in our prayer. إن اليهود يقولون: إننا لا تلحقنا الوساوس في صلاتنا
. The Jew prays, he is not whispered to in his prayer, he is not agitated. When the Muslim prays, the doors of agitation open for him from every side in matters that have no good in them, in matters that, as soon as he says the taslim, they disappear from him as a cloud disappears in the summer, because Satan wants to corrupt his worship for him. So Ibn Mas'ud or Ibn Abbas said:
You are truthful, and what does Satan do with a ruined heart? صدقوا، وما يصنع الشيطان بقَلْبٍ خَرَاب
.
Look at the answer.
The hearts of the Jews and Christians are ruined. Does Satan come to corrupt them while they are ruined? Satan only comes to a standing structure to demolish it, but he does not come to a collapsed structure. And this indicates that the more a person increases in faith in Allah the Mighty and Majestic, the more Satan dominates him with such whispers, and its cure is that he seeks refuge in Allah and stops.
And I say to the brotherThe questioner : Be glad with good, as long as you resist these whispers, and seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, and stop from them and turn away from them, they will not harm you, if Allah wills.
