How to Treat One Afflicted by Satanic Whispers
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! I have a brother who is in the early stages of his commitment, and I ask Allah for his steadfastness, but he suffers from Satanic whispers, and all of these whispers are in matters of his religion. He is currently in a psychological state that has led him to visit hospitals,Knowing that he went to a shaykh who recited for him and said: They are whispers, and if Allah wills, they will go and disappear, but to no avail. So what is your advice? And does he sin, Your Eminence, on account of these whispers, even if he does not utter them? May Allah reward you with good.
Give your brother good news that what he finds in his heart is pure faith; because Satan had previously played with him and let him slip from his religion, and he did not feel anything, because Satan was at ease as nothing had entered him. So when he turned to commitment, Satan then took hold of him to corrupt his religion and divert him from his commitment. So give him good news that this is clear faith, and he should not pay attention to it, and he does not sin on account of it, even if Satan says to him something he cannot speak of and he himself cannot speak of it. Let him seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, and let him stop, and then it will be removed from him;Because Allah says: [al-Nisa:76] So Satan plots against the son of Adam when he sees him committed; he plots against him with whispers that lead him to doubt—may Allah protect us from that—so let him seek refuge in Allah, and let him stop, and by the permission of Allah, nothing will befall him; because the One who described this medicine to us is the most knowledgeable of people about the treatment of these matters, and he is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). He commanded us that when we feel these whispers, we should seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan and stop, and consequently Satan will retreat and his plot will be nullified. So give him this good news,And tell him: He should not pay attention to that thing.
When the mu'adhdhin calls the adhan, he stands up, performs wudu', and prays, even if all the whispers are in his heart, even if he feels that he is not praying. Indeed, this does not harm him, and if Allah wills, there is no evil for him, if he takes this medicine from this doctor who knows the medicine and the disease; so let him be given good news of recovery.
