Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Some people, when blessed with a newborn, call the adhan in the right ear and the iqamah in the left ear. Is this found in the Sunnah?

The Shaykh : It is found in the Sunnah. However, the hadiths regarding the iqamah are weak. As for the adhan, they are stronger. Therefore, we say: the adhan should be called in the right ear as soon as the child is born. Most people nowadays are unable to do this, because the children are born by nurses in the hospital. But if a person is present at the birth, he should call the adhan in the right ear. However, not with a loud voice so that the ear is not affected, but with a low voice. The scholars said: so that the first thing to reach his hearing is the adhan and the call to prayer. Yes.
