Is sustenance and marriage written in the Preserved Tablet, and is it written, for example, that I will marry a specific woman in advance? And is sustenance fixed no matter how hard a person strives and labors, and what is the evidence for this?

The questioner : Is sustenance and marriage written in the Preserved Tablet, and is it written, for example, that I will marry a specific woman in advance? And is sustenance fixed no matter how hard a person strives and labors, and what is the evidence for this?

The Shaykh : Yes, the answer is that everything proceeds from when Allah created the Pen until the Day of Resurrection, and it is written in the Preserved Tablet. For Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), the first thing He created was the Pen, and He said to it: Write. It said: My Lord! What shall I write? He said: Write what is destined to happen. So it proceeded in that moment with what is destined to happen until the Day of Resurrection.
And it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
When the fetus in the womb has passed four months, Allah sends to it an angel who breathes into it the soul, and writes its sustenance, its term, its deeds, and whether it will be wretched or happy.
.
And sustenance is also written; it does not increase or decrease. But Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has made for it causes by which it increases or decreases. Among the causes is that a person works to seek sustenance, as He the Exalted said:
It is He who made the earth tame for you - so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision - and to Him is the resurrection.
[Al-Mulk 67:15]
.
And among the causes is also maintaining family ties, through dutifulness to parents and keeping in touch with relatives. For the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who likes that his sustenance should be expanded and his age may be lengthened should join the tie of kinship.
Sahih Muslim 2557b
.
And among the causes is: the mindfulness of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as He the Exalted said:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
. Do not say that sustenance is written and fixed, and I will not do the causes that lead to it. For this is from weakness, and wisdom and prudence are that you strive for your sustenance and for what benefits you in your religion and your worldly life. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The clever person ids the one who subjugates his soul, and works for what is after death. And the incapable is the one who follows his desires and merely hopes in Allah.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2459Da'if (Darussalam)
. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
