The Shaykh mentioned some of the legitimate means for obtaining sustenance.

The Shaykh : The other story aligns with this one in that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) subdues the heavens and the earth for the pious and the righteous. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, and the hadith is in "Sahih Muslim":
While a man from among those before you was walking in a desolate part of the land, he heard a voice from the sky addressing the clouds: "Rain upon the land of so-and-so." So the man walked on the land, following the cloud in the sky, until he reached a garden. And there was the cloud emptying its store of water upon it. The man looked on and found its owner working in his land. He greeted him by the name he had heard from the cloud. The one greeted was amazed, for he saw the signs of travel on the greeter. He asked him: "Where are you from?" He said to him: "By Allah, I am a passerby." He said to him: "How do you know that I am so-and-so?" So he mentioned to him the verse and the miracle. By what means was that?
Here is the point: the matter of the righteous, the pious, the humble ones who do not act haughtily toward the Lord of the Worlds. He says:
By Allah, I do not know. I have this land, I plant it and tend to it, and when it bears fruit and produces, I divide it into three parts: a part I return to the land, a part I spend on myself and my family, and a third part I give in charity to the poor and the needy. The man said to him: "That is it."
. The hadith ends here.
Now, these two stories explain
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
. This is the general answer: we must not handle our worldly affairs with the scales of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and disbelief, like those who do not believe in spiritual or metaphysical causes, as they say in this age. The disbelievers, as you know, see everything as material, and there is nothing beyond matter. As for the Muslims, although they believe in the Sunnah of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), by which He raised the Muslims, and He told them, for example:
And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:10]
, in addition to that, He expanded the circle of causes for them through a non-material path, which is, in other words, through obeying Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and worshipping Him with everything He commanded. Thus, this obedience becomes one of the causes that expands a person's sustenance beyond what he seeks through material causes. Two authentic hadiths come to mind on this occasion. One of them is what the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim) narrated in their "Sahih"s from the hadith of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever loves to have his lifespan extended and his sustenance expanded, let him maintain his family ties.
. Today, Muslims, let alone disbelievers, most of them do not know that maintaining family ties is one of the causes for expansion in sustenance and one of the causes for lengthening life. All they are aware of is that there are material causes... And there is no doubt that the Europeans have achieved a brilliant success in discovering these causes and organizing them, to the point that you read in newspapers and scientific magazines that, for example, in a certain region or a certain country, within a few years, they were able to reduce deaths due to a certain cause, or the death of children due to a certain cause, and so on. Why? Because they took hold of the causes that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) legislated—cosmic, natural causes—but they are ignorant, and many Muslims share in this ignorance, in that they think that lifespan is cut off, and this is true, but they think that the cut-off lifespan has no causes. They also think that happiness and misery are cut off, and this is also true, but they think and imagine, likewise, that happiness and misery have no legitimate causes. This is one of the illusions that have spread among Muslims. So, I never distinguish between sustenance and happiness and misery. You know from the authentic hadiths that when the fetus reaches four months, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) commands the angel assigned to it to breathe the soul into it, and to write whether it will be happy or miserable, its sustenance, its lifespan—all of this is written while it is a fetus in its mother's womb. As the scholar Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "This is not the first writing." This was written in the Preserved Tablet long ago, but this is a confirmation and affirmation of the previous writing. So, whether we speak of the previous writing or this subsequent writing, did the Lord of the Worlds (Mighty and Majestic) impose happiness on a person by force, and likewise misery, likewise sustenance, likewise lifespan? The answer is no. Everything is by cause. Everything with Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is by cause. Therefore, He said (Exalted is He) in the Noble Qur'an:
(5) As for he who gives and fears Allah (6) And believes in the best [reward], (7) We will ease him toward ease. (8) But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need (9) And denies the best [reward],
[Al-Layl 92:5-9]
. All that is the case is that Allah (Mighty and Majestic), who said in truth:
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
, has known what every person obligated to obey, whether jinn or human, will turn toward in response to the call of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) or in opposition and contradiction to it. So He wrote, based on His prior knowledge, that he who will strive for good, He will make the path of good easy for him, and He wrote him as happy. And the opposite is the opposite: He who He knows will strive for disbelief, open sinfulness, and evil, He wrote him as miserable. The same is the case regarding length of life and sustenance. Everything has a cause. But I wanted to draw attention to the fact that there are legitimate causes, which are additional to the cosmic causes. And we, Muslims, must know our religion and worship our Lord with the causes by which we are commanded to worship, whether they are cosmic or legitimate. In my opinion, those questions that came did not take into account any of this explanation and detail. And in my opinion, in my opinion, this answer that I described as being general, and it is indeed general, even though it contains detail that corresponds to the generality I claimed. But I want now to discuss the individual words of your questions to apply this sound legitimate methodology to them. So, bring the first question. What was it?
