The questioner : What is the authenticity of the hadith and if that is the case, what is the treatment a believer follows to ward off the evil eye, and how does the evil eye affect a person, and if there is a treatment, what is the method in your opinion, thank you?
The Shaykh : Yes, the hadith is authentic and the evil eye is real, and reality bears witness to that. The evil eye is the emergence of something from the soul of an envious person, an envious person who envies people for what Allah has granted them of His bounty. So the one who casts the evil eye is wicked and does not want people to enjoy the blessings of Allah. When he sees a blessing of Allah upon a person, this envy latent in his soul springs forth until it strikes the one enjoying the blessings of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
And the way to deliverance from the evil eye for the one who casts it is that he should seek blessing for the one he sees enjoying a blessing from Allah, and say: “O Allah, bless so-and-so,” and similar words that reassure his soul and suppress the envy within him.
As for the man who fears the evil eye, the treatment for that is to increase in reciting the morning and evening adhkar, such as the Verse of the Throne, Surat al-Ikhlas, and Surat:[Al-Falaq 113:1], [An-Nas 114:1], and others from what the Sunnah has brought. This is the treatment for protection from it before being struck.
As for after being struck by it, water is taken from the wudu of the one who cast the evil eye, or from the water he bathes with. Some of it is taken and poured on the one struck by the evil eye, or he drinks from it. If that is done, he will be cured of it by the permission of Allah. The one who cast the evil eye is ordered to perform wudu or take a bath, and what has scattered from his water is taken and poured on the one struck, or he drinks from it, or both are combined. And by that, the matter is resolved, or by that, the effect of the evil eye is removed. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh Muhammad.
