I read that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would not pass by a verse without stopping at it to glorify Allah, or make a supplication, or seek refuge.

The questioner : I read that the noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would not pass by a verse without stopping at it to glorify Allah, or make a supplication, or seek refuge. I ask for clarification of this with some detailed examples, and whether he continues reading some of it, and whether it is permissible in all prayers, or only in the obligatory prayer, or only in the voluntary prayer?

The Shaykh : What is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in this regard is what Muslim narrated from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that he prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one night, and he would not pass by a verse of mercy without asking for it, nor by a verse of warning without seeking refuge. So this is a recommended practice in the voluntary prayer, especially in the night prayer. When you pass by a verse of mercy, you ask Allah the Exalted for His bounty, and when you pass by a verse of warning, you seek refuge in Allah the Exalted from it. For example, if you read the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.
[Al-Bayyinah 98:6]
then you say: “I seek refuge in Allah from that,” and then
(7) Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures. (8) Their reward with Allah will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord.
[Al-Bayyinah 98:7-8]
you say: “I ask Allah for His bounty to make me among them,” and the like of that. So this is a recommended practice in the voluntary prayer, especially in the night prayer, because of the action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in doing it. As for the obligatory prayer, it is permissible; if a person does it, there is no sin on him, and if he leaves it, there is no sin on him. Yes.

The questioner : The listener also, Salah, says.
