The questioner : Does a wound invalidate fasting? If I fast and get a wound and blood comes out, does it invalidate my fast? And likewise, does nocturnal emission invalidate fasting? We ask for guidance on this.
The Shaykh : Fasting is not invalidated by blood coming out of a wound or the like, even if it is a lot, because it is not by the choice of the one fasting. Likewise, fasting is not invalidated by the release of semen through nocturnal emission, because it is not by the choice of the one fasting. Fasting is only invalidated if the one fasting consumes the things that break the fast while knowing, remembering, and intending to do so. As for if he is ignorant, his fasting is not invalidated. Likewise, if he is forgetful, his fasting is not invalidated. And likewise, if he does not intend the act.
An example of ignorance is if a person eats and drinks thinking that the dawn has not yet appeared, but then it turns out that the dawn has appeared; his fasting is valid.
An example of forgetfulness is if a person eats and drinks during the day while forgetting that he is fasting; his fasting is also valid.
An example of not intending the act is if a person has a nocturnal emission and semen comes out of him, or if he is forced to break his fast by eating or drinking; in that case, he does not break his fast.
